Carpet cleaning in Malta

This is just the first pass on an already "cleaned" carpet.

One of the things we pride ourselves on  at Buffer Boys is the work we do with carpets and rugs. As an introductory offer we frequently clean either a carpet or a mattress for our clients to show them exactly what we can do with our Kirby technology.

One of our favourite things to hear is "I've recently had my carpets cleaned". Why would we enjoy hearing that? Well that photo you see up at the top of this post is from such a carpet.

The thing is most vacuum cleaners were designed to make carpets look good on the surface, it's a kind of trick to make you think everything's working well when in fact what most vacuums in fact do is push the dirt further down and hide it. To me this gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "sweeping a problem under the rug".

What you can see here is the dirt pulled out of a supposedly clean carpet using Deep vacuum technology. These five "samples" were pulled out of a portion of carpet just a little over a square foot.

Unbelievable right?

The thing is that in Malta most people only have a rug to clean and very few people have to live with an entire house full of fitted carpets. You never really get a sense that the floors look bad because carpets are rolled up and put away for a large portion of the year. This makes us overlook the state of the rugs and focus simply on whether they look clean or not.

The truth is this dust damages the carpet over a long period of time and makes it harder and harder to clean. We solve that issue.

Once Deep Vacuumed a carpet can be safely foam cleaned

Once all that ingrained dirt is out THEN you can foam clean the carpet properly. Usually wet cleaning simply pushes that hidden dirt into the fabric. Here at Buffer Boys we make sure that doesn't happen.

The difference with cleaning carpets the way we do is that it cleans *and* lengthens the life of your materials. We don't just want to make your fabrics look good, we want them to stay that way for as long as possible.

So if you've got a carpet that has been cleaned conventionally (or a sofa or mattress) call us now for a demonstration that will show you some real results.

Why we want to vacuum your mattress!

Unlike most vacuums Kirby's don't need to add bulk to have the necessary airflow power

A lot of people ignore the maintenance of their mattresses and only call someone in when the situation is dire. Most of the time people will have their mattress cleaned when they are experience a health related issue like itching or when their children/pets have had an 'accident'.

Ok, it's entirely understandable, we expect our beds to be clean until we've made a mess of them but it's not really the case. It's a relatively new thing to have a mattress that lasts so long without being replaced. Remember that as we look back in time before the 1900's mattresses were made of increasingly disposable materials. Lying on a bed of hay meant that next week you would have fresh bedding and if you were a prehistoric nomadic hunter/gatherer you'd probably never sleep in the same place twice.

No mattress! No worries!

But we don't have to put up will all that hunter gatherer nonsense and we get to sleep in mattresses that last around 10-15 years.

But there is a downside unfortunately. By having these mattresses so long we give some of our microscopic friends a permanent home to build colonies. I'm in fact talking about dust mites. Ok the next part isn't that pleasant but don't freak out! for the most part you can live with these things. In fact the reason I mentioned the biological history is to show that we've kind of caused the problem by living indoors too much, so that being said let's take a look at your mattress under a microscope.

Awwww isn't it cute!
Up there is a common house dust mite, don't worry... they are so small that this picture adds in the colour after. The average dust mite is 300 microns which is 0.3 mm, look at a mm on a ruler that's tiny. Now this is VERY important: You CANNOT feel dust mites crawling on your skin. It's very important to know this because if you freak out and scratch enough you'll eventually end up "feeling" them. So don't do that ok? :)

Ok that being said why do you need to worry about these little critters? Well it's not them, it's what they excrete. By human standards they are entirely filthy animals, they eat your dead skin and then proceed to poo, breed and then eat their own poo, eat your dead skin again and poo and breed some more. So what you are left with inside your mattress is a larger and larger colony of them and an increasing quantity of their excrement.

For the most part you can live with this for a while but after a while the build up can cause allergies which can range from breathing issues to irritated skin. If you've ever been in a humid cluttered room and had a sense that the place was plain 'dirty' this is what's happening underneath the hood.

So what can you do? First keep your humidity at a comfortable 50% relative humidity. This is really a must when dealing with all little invaders from dust mites to termites to wall destroying mold.

Here to kill mites and chew bubblegum and we're all out of gum

Second: Give us a call! By treating your mattress to a Deep Vacuum treatment every year you will not only remove the stored deposits of excrement and dead skin (which is a feast for them) but the mites themselves will have a one way flight to the dustbag. Remember that after establishing a large enough colony these guys will be able to migrate to other items you sit on like your couch (though their primary breeding ground is your bed).

Our machines use Deep Vacuuming technology which means that they create powerful airflow all the way through your mattress, at the same time they vibrate the fabrics pulling any clingers on loose. The same cannot be said of a regular dustbuster so with those the colonies will remain in the centre of the mattress.

So give the Buffer Boys a ring and we'll get your mattress hospital fresh without using any chemicals at all so you can enjoying a feeling of freshness.

9th Noverber 24hr Cult Film Festival

Lots of potentially smelly, donated couches to get cleaned up!

November of this year gave us at Buffer Boys the chance to get involved in some recycling again and so we took it. We heard that a 24 hour film festival was getting a whole load of couches donated so that the movie goers could enjoy the films in comfort.

Hold on a second! No-one gives away couches! well in our experience sofas have to be in a real state before people will actually part with them (Either that or they are getting a new one)

So the first thing that came to mind was odors, old sofas that have been sitting around collecting dust generally have been sitting around collecting smells too... We weren't going to let people have to endure that!

So we got stuck in immediately. There were about 50 sofas to deal with in the limited time we had so made sure to get the worst of them first. The really mucky ones got a full shampoo but most of them just needed a deep dry vacuum.

All of them needed to be deodorized though!

6 hours later and we were just finishing off the last of them. The really dirty ones had all but the worst of the stains removed (All the grime and dust had been successfully obliterated) And they all smelt alpine fresh! Now the movie goers would have a much better experience :)

The festival kicked off with the clear goal of trying to get as many fans as possible staying up the whole 24 hours to catch all of the offerings... Here's what was on the menu:

Pulp Fiction - 18.30
The Lost Boys – 21:25
2001: A Space Odyssey – 23:20
The Big Lebowski – 02:20
The Graduate – 04:30
Mulholland Drive – 06:25
Withnail and I – 09:10
The Fifth Element – 11:20
Manhatten - 13:45
Fight Club – 15:40

In that it was a huge success with several attendees actually making in through the whole 24 hours! People were sending Facebook messages to the tune of "20 hours 40 cups of coffee, still going strong"
And no-one was bothered by any grit or odors from the couches ;)

So if you're a fan of movies or clean couches (or watching movies from the comfort of your clean couch) check us out on facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/BufferBoys Or give us a ring on 20103050 / 77113050 ( +44 1244 969500 If you're in the UK )

If we can clean up a whole theater we can get your couch looking good as new!

From building waste to event space.

Godwin attacking the industrial dirt

We at Buffer Boys are in the business of getting dirt out of the fabrics in your home. Sometimes though we apply our expertise to a little community work. Why not? In fact Why Not is the name of our sister company, a non profit organization dedicated to reaching out to everyday people in the community and enriching their lives through events and get togethers (they also sell some pretty nice clothes).

This story is about a fitted carpet that had been installed while a restaurant in Qawra was renovating its interior. During the renovation the carpet was exposed to masses of plaster debris and paint runoff from the work being done on the walls, not to mention the 5 years of customer foot traffic embedded into it. Total loss? you'd think so right?

At the top of this article you can see one of our guys, Godwin, getting stuck into the work on this carpet

First it had to be entirely deep vacuumed twice and then given another shampoo cleaning afterwards.

The photo to the left is a before and after photo, first off we can all agree it looks a lot better but more than that this carpet was now sanitized thanks to our unique deep vacuuming technology.

Setting up
Now all that was left was to get it set up in Valletta (near the upper Baraka) for the actual event.

The event in question was organised by Tribali and was a "recyle jam fest" This meant that the instruments like maracas etc, were made from some kind of recycled item.

And the carpet too!

The event was a great success as you can see below. The other carpets there are recycled too and everyone looks happy with the ambiance we set up here.

It's things like this that add to our satisfaction in doing the work we do, A recovered carpet may seem like a small thing but when you add it to all the other small things it's part of a tapestry that creates a good atmosphere for everyone. I wonder if we can actually clean tapestries?

Good times :D

Thanks for reading and also if you have any carpets or cushions that are too far gone; you can call Why Not and they will collect them so that the Buffer boys can clean them up, recover them and add to the stockpile of cushions and carpets for the many events that Why Not organize.
