9th Noverber 24hr Cult Film Festival

Lots of potentially smelly, donated couches to get cleaned up!

November of this year gave us at Buffer Boys the chance to get involved in some recycling again and so we took it. We heard that a 24 hour film festival was getting a whole load of couches donated so that the movie goers could enjoy the films in comfort.

Hold on a second! No-one gives away couches! well in our experience sofas have to be in a real state before people will actually part with them (Either that or they are getting a new one)

So the first thing that came to mind was odors, old sofas that have been sitting around collecting dust generally have been sitting around collecting smells too... We weren't going to let people have to endure that!

So we got stuck in immediately. There were about 50 sofas to deal with in the limited time we had so made sure to get the worst of them first. The really mucky ones got a full shampoo but most of them just needed a deep dry vacuum.

All of them needed to be deodorized though!

6 hours later and we were just finishing off the last of them. The really dirty ones had all but the worst of the stains removed (All the grime and dust had been successfully obliterated) And they all smelt alpine fresh! Now the movie goers would have a much better experience :)

The festival kicked off with the clear goal of trying to get as many fans as possible staying up the whole 24 hours to catch all of the offerings... Here's what was on the menu:

Pulp Fiction - 18.30
The Lost Boys – 21:25
2001: A Space Odyssey – 23:20
The Big Lebowski – 02:20
The Graduate – 04:30
Mulholland Drive – 06:25
Withnail and I – 09:10
The Fifth Element – 11:20
Manhatten - 13:45
Fight Club – 15:40

In that it was a huge success with several attendees actually making in through the whole 24 hours! People were sending Facebook messages to the tune of "20 hours 40 cups of coffee, still going strong"
And no-one was bothered by any grit or odors from the couches ;)

So if you're a fan of movies or clean couches (or watching movies from the comfort of your clean couch) check us out on facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/BufferBoys Or give us a ring on 20103050 / 77113050 ( +44 1244 969500 If you're in the UK )

If we can clean up a whole theater we can get your couch looking good as new!

From building waste to event space.

Godwin attacking the industrial dirt

We at Buffer Boys are in the business of getting dirt out of the fabrics in your home. Sometimes though we apply our expertise to a little community work. Why not? In fact Why Not is the name of our sister company, a non profit organization dedicated to reaching out to everyday people in the community and enriching their lives through events and get togethers (they also sell some pretty nice clothes).

This story is about a fitted carpet that had been installed while a restaurant in Qawra was renovating its interior. During the renovation the carpet was exposed to masses of plaster debris and paint runoff from the work being done on the walls, not to mention the 5 years of customer foot traffic embedded into it. Total loss? you'd think so right?

At the top of this article you can see one of our guys, Godwin, getting stuck into the work on this carpet

First it had to be entirely deep vacuumed twice and then given another shampoo cleaning afterwards.

The photo to the left is a before and after photo, first off we can all agree it looks a lot better but more than that this carpet was now sanitized thanks to our unique deep vacuuming technology.

Setting up
Now all that was left was to get it set up in Valletta (near the upper Baraka) for the actual event.

The event in question was organised by Tribali and was a "recyle jam fest" This meant that the instruments like maracas etc, were made from some kind of recycled item.

And the carpet too!

The event was a great success as you can see below. The other carpets there are recycled too and everyone looks happy with the ambiance we set up here.

It's things like this that add to our satisfaction in doing the work we do, A recovered carpet may seem like a small thing but when you add it to all the other small things it's part of a tapestry that creates a good atmosphere for everyone. I wonder if we can actually clean tapestries?

Good times :D

Thanks for reading and also if you have any carpets or cushions that are too far gone; you can call Why Not and they will collect them so that the Buffer boys can clean them up, recover them and add to the stockpile of cushions and carpets for the many events that Why Not organize.
